9:00 am – Open

10-11:00 am - "Shimmies"

Shimmies! 1 hour - The shimmy is the walk in a healthy woman's step. You are born with it-you just have learn how to use it! Basic Shimmy magic; the mechanics of how it works. Walking shimmy, Turkish Shimmy, Alternating Shimmy, Reverse Shimmy, Arabic Shimmy, Wet Dog, Shoulder Shimmy/Hip Drop and Ghawazee Shimmy Combo.

11-1:00 pm - "Tribal Combinations"

Tribal Combinations 2 hours (for dancers familiar with Dance Fundamentals) Drills to refine the use of basic steps and their variations in combinations and mini-choreographies. Partnering and group work with emphasis on communication between dancers. *Dancers should know the basics of Taxeem, Bodywave, Hand Floreo and Arm Undulations, Shimmy, Arabic Basic, Egyptian Basic, Pivot Bumps and Choo-choos.

1-2:00 pm – Lunch

2-3:00 pm - "Sculpt Your Steps"

Sculpt Your Steps 1 hour - Look inside your steps and see how they work. Then, understand how to add shape, angles and motion. Using the playground of anchor and release we'll explore your favorite steps.

3-5:00 pm - "Picky Technique"

Picky Technique 1-2 hours - Ever wondered what the hands are doing in the third section of the Sahra Turn? How to keep the lifting hip weightless in the Taxeem? Do your arms get tired after a few minutes of dancing? You asked for it, you got it! A class devoted to your specific technique questions. Please be versed in the basics: Taxeem, Bodywave, Hand Floreos and Arm Undulations, Shimmy, basic Arabic, basic Eygptian, Pivot Bump and Choo-choo. Bring: zils, a full skirt is recommended but not mandatory.

7-10:00 pm – Hafla

10-12:00 am - "Improvisational Choreography

"Improvisational Choreography 2 hours (for dancers familiar with Dance Fundamentals) Communication is one of the subtle but very exciting aspects of Tribal Style dance. Using a series of simple but challenging drills, learn the concept of Leading and Following, Formations, Cues and Transitions and Music Interpretaion. *Dancers should know the basics of Taxeem, Bodywave, Hand Floreo and Arm Undulations, Shimmy, Arabic Basic, Egyptian Basic, Pivot Bumps and Choo-choos.

12-1:00 pm - "Touch The Music"

Touch the Music1-2 hours - What is your favorite song? What is it that makes it special? What did you feel when you first heard it, and can you express that feeling when you dance to it? In this workshop, Carolena presents a series of drills to help find the suitable combinations and exact formations to match your favorite music. Learn how to let the music push you, giving the freedom to simply respond, particularly when you know the steps and formations, and trust your partners and audience. Please be versed in the basics: Taxeem, Bodywave, Hand Floreos and Arm Undulations, Shimmy, basic Arabic, basic Eygptian, Pivot Bump and Choo-choo. Bring: zils, a full skirt is recommended but not mandatory.

1-2:00 pm – Lunch

2-3:00 pm - "Formations That Work"

Formations & Transitions that Work 1-2 hours - Group presentations are strengthened by solid formations, where each dancer knows their position and can quickly and easily respond to cues from the leader. These formations morph, changing shape and size as the performance progresses. In this workshop, Carolena will discuss the fine points of ATS® formations, giving insight into the positions, sight lines and placement. She will discuss the importance of clear and exciting transitions between formations, and also include transitions between dancers and between moves, including what your feet are doing under your skirt. Please be versed in the basics: Taxeem, Bodywave, Hand Floreos and Arm Undulations, Shimmy, basic Arabic, basic Eygptian, Pivot Bump and Choo-choo. Bring: zils, a full skirt is recommended but not mandatory.

3-5:00 pm - "Crafting ATS® Pefformance Set"

Crafting an ATS® Performance Set 2 hours - (need at least three advanced ATS® dancers to present this class for demos.) The fine art of crafting a performance. Students will be challenged with a set of music and performance situations based on real life (a small party, a big outdoor festival, etc.) We will form small groups, discuss and drill through the songs in the set, choose who is dancing to which song, rehearse again, critique the progress and then present our virtual show. Dancers must know (I mean, really be able to do it!) the basics of Taxeem, Bodywave, Hand Floreo and Arm Undulations, Shimmy, Arabic Basic, Egyptian Basic, Pivot Bumps and Choo-choos. Also, be able to use ATS® formations: Duet, Trio and Quartet. Please review the FCBD® dvds Vol. 1-7 if necessary. Your success in this class relies on your ability to communicate (non-verbally!) with the other dancers.
